Artists can give away tracks (MP3′s) but get email addresses and fan info in return. The tracks can be pushed out through the artists social media as well as peer to peer. When a fan tries to open the MP3 it asks them for a valid email address. This is an excellent way for an artist to build up their fan database before launching a fan funded plan.
